We're a diverse group of ATV enthusiasts working to promote and protect access to public lands. The future a ATV enjoyment is in our own hands and the Rapids Riders ATV Club was formed with some simple goals in mind. Extend riding opportunities in the Itasca County Area by promoting safety, responsible riding and trail expansion in environmentally friendly ways. A group of Rapids Riders ATV members took advantage of the some gorgeous late-summer weather to travel some new trails. Larry, one the of the riders, took the time to document the trip and share the story. Enjoy the story and some pictures that Larry provided to rratv.org
Six more members of the Rapids Riders ATV Club have been certified as DNR Trail Ambassadors in 2009 bringing the total to eight. Training classes were held in Grand Rapids in late May and early June so that clubs from the entire Northern Minnesota area could attend. From the attendance it's obvious that volunteers can see the positive effect this program is having on our sport.
Club President Mike Hilla commented that the training isn't about enforcement, it's about educating, informing and assisting riders. The program is also designed to communicate trail conditions and rider needs to the DNR Trails and Waterways staff for improvements and repairs. More information is available at the DNR website.
The Rapids Riders ATV Club meets on a monthly basis. We discuss upcoming youth safety classes, area ride opportunities along with general club business. After our business meetings, we usually spend some extra time to talk about anything that comes to mind. So if you have some time and would like to join in our fun, feel free to attend one of our club meetings.
If you've been thinking about a nice ride in the Chippewa National Forest, you're in luck! The Forest Service has issued new maps for each quadrant of the CNF. You can find the maps at any of the Ranger Stations. There are very specific rules and routes but there are some beautiful sites to see in this forest of tall pines and endless wildlife. Please obtain a route map before riding and have fun! Youth ATV Safety is one of the best times to instill the responsibilities of ATV operation. Young riders are the future of this activity and Certification opens the door to discovering Minnesota's trail systems.
Minnesota state law requires riders born after July 1, 1987 to complete the training before operating an ATV.
